What Is Healthy Eating?

What is healthy eating? Healthy eating is doing what's right for your body, and can be different for each of us. We all have different likes and dislikes when it comes to food and activities. We have different schedules and we have different health goals so no one single way of eating will be a good fit for all of us.

What is Healthy Eating

Healthy eating includes eating foods and developing eating habits that lead you toward health rather than away from health. It's important to be pointed in the right direction.

Healthy eating is all about the great tasting fresh food that is available to you and not about foods you can't have. Actually, there's no such thing.

In short, healthy eating exhilarates you!

Balance so that you don't have to be perfect. When you choose a food high in fat, choose other foods that are low in fat to balance the meal and/or the day.

Moderation so that you can eat all of the foods you enjoy, in reasonable quantities, and maintain health without depriving yourself.

Variety so that you get all of the nutrients you need in appropriate amounts. The body needs more than 40 nutrients each day and it takes a variety of foods to provide them.

Healthy eating is about how great you'll feel, how strong you will be, and how much energy you will have when you incorporate balance, moderation, and variety into your eating.

Put all of this together and you've got a pretty good picture of where you are on the health continuum, that is, whether you are traveling toward health or away from health.

It's never too late to change the direction of your travel ...

Now is a good time to answer the question "what is healthy eating for me". Then make the decision to start your healthy eating plan.

Reminder

You have to take the long view of healthy eating. It doesn't happen overnight.

Of course once you start it's natural to want the changes to begin showing up immediately. Be patient... It takes time... But it's so worth it!

There is no magic wand that will change your state of health or your weight overnight, but once you make the commitment to healthy eating, you can expect to move steadily in a positive direction.
