Teach Yourself How To Love Yourself
There are lots of little things that you can do throughout the day that reflect how to love yourself.
Give these a try and come up with some of your own. Self acceptance and self-care are the keys to how to love yourself.
- Do at least three nice things for your body every day.
- Acknowledge that bodies come in all shapes and sizes. Life is much more interesting because of it.
- Others find you attractive so stop beating yourself up.
- Learn to be critical about media messages that are related to an ideal body image.
- Look around. How many people do you encounter, as you go about your life, who meet the ideal? Bodies come in all shapes and sizes and you don't have to do more than step outside your front door to become aware of it.
- Do one thing that you've been putting off until your body changed.
- Purchase and wear clothing that fits well no matter what the size tag says. You've got style!
- Appreciate others for who they are, not what they look like.
- Practice telling yourself that you are beautiful and deserve all of the good things that life has to offer.
- Make time to pamper yourself often with long luxurious baths, a pedicure, a manicure, a massage, special body oils.
- Think about what pleases you and make time for it.
- Find pleasure in this very moment, and the next, and the next…
- Acknowledge all of the good things that your body has allowed you to accomplish so far.
- Examine your own weight or size prejudices towards others.
- Affirm that your value is in who you are, not what you look like.
- Nurture your body by getting enough rest, feeding yourself nutritious foods, experiencing the pleasure of movement that is fun, and giving yourself frequent periods of relaxation.
- Be aware that you are not the only one struggling with body image issues. Locate a support group for help.
- Embrace your body instead of thinking of it as the body you got stuck with.
- Think about the people you admire in life, from family members to friends to celebrities. Do you value them for what they contribute to your life or for what they look like?
- Make a list of things you like about yourself that have nothing to do with your appearance.
- Surround yourself with people who add value to your life and who appreciate your value.
- Keep in mind that you are setting an example for your children.
- Always be kind to yourself.
