Eating Healthy and Losing Weight

When you hear the words eating healthy and losing weight what comes to mind for you?
  • Giving up the food you love
  • Eating foods you don't like
  • Lots of salads without dressing
  • No more pot lucks at the office
  • Drinking water when you really want food
  • Frozen diet meals that you don't even bother to put on a plate after nukeing
  • No more...(fill in your favorite food here)

Notice how everything on the list relates to something you are missing or giving up. It's all negative.

Something is wrong with this picture. My question was about healthy eating - a way of eating that usually is a positive experience. In order to enjoy the benefits of eating healthy and losing weight you have to be willing to change your thinking to look at it as a positive. It is definitely something good that you are doing to care for yourself.

Is it possible that you are focused on the negative because you can't bear the thought of giving up your best friend (food) and you are making up excuses so that you don't have to give it up.

Eating healthy foods can bring joy and pleasure to your life - not misery. Healthy eating is not a form of punishment. The benefits of healthy eating are numerous. You have to find what's right for you and build your healthy eating plan around it.

Take some time to consider what is healthy eating for you? How many times you eat each day, which foods you choose to eat, when you eat. These are all customizable choices that are up to you. There is not one right way to go about eating healthy and losing weight.

The only thing that is an absolute is that you make the choice to start.

Food Is For Fuel and Pleasure

Healthy eating may seem difficult at first because whenever you do something new you have to put a lot of thought into it. But ...
eventually it becomes automatic.

It does not have to be a life long struggle. You can recover and put it behind you.

I get so upset when Oprah talks about how she hates to exercise and even though she's been doing it for years, it's still drudgery for her. Oprah, make the effort to find an exercise that you like and enjoy. It can definitely be fun. It's not a punishment!

My goal with this site is to help you to consider sensible weight loss as a positive goal, not as drudgery. Food is for fuel and pleasure. You're supposed to eat what you love and love what you eat.

Take a look at your life. What else is in your life besides food? Ask yourself if the life that you are living is the one that you want to live?
